Monday Mindset Motivation: Art of the Restart

Welcome to your Monday Mindset Motivation. We know everything on the outside… our bodies, our relationships, our productivity, our careers, our home life is all a reflection of the health and strength of our minds. Our minds are so powerful. When we work to improve the quality of our thoughts, we know we can conquer just about anything. So, here’s to a new week and a new mindset to help us move in the direction of our dreams!
Today’s mindset motivation is to shift into seeing every day, every moment really as an opportunity to restart and begin again.

This past week, I was having a morning where everything seemed to be going wrong. I forgot about an early call so I had to hop onto it quickly and I felt totally unprepared. That set the tone for the rest of the day. I felt like I was hitting a wall with every project I was working on. I was grumpy. I was then upset that I was grumpy. You know those kind of days??
At about 2 PM, I called Anthony, feeling frustrated and said, “I just want to go back to sleep, so that I can wake up and start my day over.”
After hearing myself say that out loud, a light bulb went off….
You can, girlfriend.
You can restart right now.

The details prior to restarting always seem to vary, but the pattern never does.
What I mean is we may feel “off track” with our nutrition… we drank to much wine, we ate the entire pizza and now we need to start fresh after the weekend.
Or, our personal lives are just a mess… we’ve been doing so much negative self-talk, we’ve been lashing our at our family members, we’ve been feeling immense stress and now we need to restart mentally and emotionally.
Whatever your details are on why you need to restart, this mindset will help you! There really seems to be an art to the restart. Once we learn it, we can adopt it and restart like pros!

Let’s first identify some myths about restarting….
YOU CAN’T FEEL ANGRY OR SAD – MYTH!
Yeah, who the hell is responsible for teaching us this?! I totally fell for that trap for years. In an attempt to “be positive,” I pushed away every “negative” feeling that ever popped up. Guess what the not-so-positive repercussion of that is? Those negative emotions resurface bigger and badder than ever before.
You know what I’m talking about… the pain of the passive digs Susie throws at you. Yeah, you push that down and play it off as no big deal. How about the relationship or friendship that didn’t last. Oh girlfriend… you shoved those feelings aside and posted #blessed #happiness pictures on social media only in an attempt to prove to to your ex you’ve already moved on. Haha maybe I’m reaching here or maybe you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Here’s what I’ve learned… pain in an inevitable part of life but suffering doesn’t have to be. We suffer when we don’t allow ourselves to feel those negative emotions like guilt, anger, sadness, and loneliness as they arise. When we don’t allow ourselves to work through the pain, we suffer in silence and for so much longer than if we had allowed ourselves to be sad in the moment.
So, now we know. We can feel sad. We can get pissed off. We can have a bad day. Whatever you’re feeling right now as to why you want to restart… experience it. Let it happen. It allows for the restart!

YOU CAN’T ASK FOR HELP – MYTH!
Happiness is an inside job. Getting to a place where you feel good is entirely up to you. But that doesn’t mean we can’t ask for a little help along the way.
I’ve found the best way to move past difficult times is to be so busy living and loving your life, which, of course, happens a bit more easily with help from others.
See your family. Spend time with your girls. Call upon this community… if there is every a group more understanding of the want to become a better version of ourselves inside and out, it is this LG Sisterhood! Text. Facetime. Get together. Ask for help when you need it!
To sum all of that up and put it in the most practical way, just feel whatever it is you’re feeling. Whatever is weighing you down, it’s okay. Feel it. Accept it. Seek help to move through it.

You’re already asking for a little help from a girlfriend by reading this, so let’s restart…

These are just some things I do that help me restart. Because the restart is just a pattern, you can call on these restart tools in any moment and for any reason you want to start fresh!
GET IT OUT
We talked a lot about this already, but get it all out, girl. Something I find helpful is to just to write out my feelings. I don’t save it or share it. I just put it on paper to get it out and move through it.
MOVE YOUR BODY
Yes, a workout is a great energizing, endorphin-stimulating way to restart, but so is something as simple as a 5 minute walk around your office or down your block. A leisurely walk is my go-to and whenever possible, I take my walk outside for the ultimate restart. Connecting the mind and a new mindset with motion provides almost immediate changes.
When I’m struggling to get back into my fitness routine, you’ve proabably heard me say that I always just begin with a walk. Typically, a walk turns into a run and then I want to hit the weight. It spirals (in the best way from there). When I’m mentally in a tough spot, you’ll find me walking! Not for a workout, but just to clear my head… I can then go back into any situation with a fresh perspective.
READ SOMETHING
Words leave a lasting impact. They are also very personal. What motivates me may not resonate with you. Have a few reads, authors, books, bible passages, etc. that you can call on to help shift your thoughts when you want to restart.
My dad has a special book with highlighted passages that he’s kept on his desk for years. He told me once that every morning when he gets into the office and after every lunch when he sits back down, he reads for 5 minutes. First off, that’s the cutest thing ever. Secondly, what a way to keep your mind right!

COMMUNITY CHECK IN
We thrive off us acceptance. This community, your LG Sisters get you. You’re accepted for exactly who you are. You are not judged. Whenever you need us, we are here. A simply click of #LGAccountability can help spark a restart!
This is something that really helps me when I’m in a health or fitness rut… when I see how excited you all are about your workouts or meals, it reminds me of how much I truly love this lifestyle too!
GRATITUDE COUNT
The attitude of gratitude is something I think I’ve pretty much beaten to death on here, but I won’t give it up. When I feel that I am at my lowest, I just count all that I’m thankful for: real simply because those are the moments when the overly optimistic stuff just doesn’t stick. 1) wifi so I can type this 2) sunshine Start small and see how quickly everything shifts.
Here are a few reminders for you as you restart in any area of your life today and this week….
Whatever you’re feeling is valid. You’re not crazy. You’re not being negative. You’re real. Honor those feelings.
Wherever it is you want to be, you’ll get there. Be patient.
Every single second is an opportunity to start fresh. Don’t put off to tomorrow what you can accomplish today.
Don’t forget to enjoy the journey!
