The Other Side of Shapewear

I recently came across an online
article (see link below – quick & good read) about the pros and cons of
shapewear. Shapewear, such as Spanx have become a household item, found in
almost anyone’s closet: women young and old, even men now! Yes, they work
wonders at making you look slimmer, less lumpy, conceal cellulite, and make you
feel better…. but do they? As someone who doesn’t own shapewear, I turned to
people I know who swear by them and asked them what they thought. Also, never
have I actually seen a before/after of someone with and without shapewear;
there is a reason why those things fly off the shelves – they work. I was so
surprised by the unbelievable results – my friend looked at least 15 pounds
lighter and had the shape and lines to go with it!
Health and fitness is undeniably
about improving the exterior, but it is actually the boost of confidence you from
this and learning to love yourself that are the lasting effects. However,
shapewear seems to do just the opposite. As my friend was squeezing into them,
I heard yelps and screams coming from the bathroom. How is one supposed to feel
good after trying to fit into something that requires several minutes to get
into? How does this promote confidence? Once the shapewear is on and the outfit
over it, my friend admitted she often feels insecurities in always thinking
people will notice she’s wearing shapewear: that doesn’t sound like it promotes
attractiveness and confidence either!
Even if you are able to feel good
in your shapewear, then comes the feeling of taking them off at night and
revealing your real body. There is nothing wrong with you at any size, so why
hide it? So many of the “shapewearers” promote loving their full figured self,
but wearing shapewear seems to make an opposite statement of needing to alter
what you really look like. I’m all about doing whatever makes you feel most
happy and confident, and if wearing shapewear does – more power to you.
However, if you’re still lacking confidence, try saying byebye to the spanks
and embracing your true body.
What Men Think:
Coincidentally, my male friends
provided great insight into this whole parody of shapewear. All three of them
surprisingly knew what spanx were and had seen them on women. They’re thoughts
– all three unanimously gave the thumbs down to shapewear. All thought of them
as an illusion: a masking of your true body. One even acknowledged how he
thought shapewear would make a woman feel less loving of her actual body and promote
insecurities with walking around without shapewear. Another added in the fact
that having two totally different body shapes and sizes (one with shapewear and
one without) may draw even more attention to your figure in a negative way. “We
can always tell when you’re wearing them,” one said. Overall, all three men
agreed they preferred women who were confident enough to go without shapewear!
TIPS FOR GENUINE, LASTING
CONFIDENCE:
1) THINK OF WHY YOU’RE LOVED
We all have a funny friend we love
to be around, a sweet one who can always cheer us up, an adventurous one who is
always fun… think of what your friends and family love you for and let that
bring you confidence!
2) IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF YOUR
INSECURITIES
Find the root of the problem. What
is causing you to feel insecure? Hopefully by identifying the cause, you can
come up with a plan to bypass these feelings and develop confidence!
3) SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THOSE WHO
LIFT YOU HIGHER
When I think of wearing shapewear,
I would think why? My boyfriend,
friends, and family would tell me I looked great either way. If there are
people in your life who would think otherwise, you may want to reconsider who
you surround yourself with. Surrounding yourself only with people who lift you
higher will bring you lasting confidence!
Are you feeling confident enough to
go without your shapewear?! You are beautiful at any size or shape – be beautiful,
be you!

I am very happy to read this. This is the kind of manual that needs to be given and not the random misinformation that’s at the other blogs.
