Question: Can cardio workouts inhibit muscle growth?
Answer: This is a great question because first off, it forces you to examine your goals. For the majority of you reading this, you not only want to shed fat, but you’re also working to achieve a fit body: one that exudes strength and confidence. The best way to achieve that is a combination of weight training and cardio for workouts in addition to eating for physical results ((find my approach on that, here)) Cardio workouts are great for heart health as well as means of burning calories to decrease weight. Now, why is it that too much cardio is not ideal for achieving a fit body? Well, having muscle is very “expensive” for the body because it requires a lot of energy aka calories to sustain itself ((our muscles literally just burn calories all day long to survive – amazing, right?!)) In short, our bodies needs good calories to help provide us with a fit body, and if those calories are constantly being burned up, it’s going to have a harder time doing so. This is why after a hard workout, you may notice your appetite increase…our bodies are great at telling us what we need: “hey there girl…feed me with nutrient-dense foods so I can help show you the hard work you just put in.” I’ve found women benefit most from regular weight training workouts that incorporate cardio with occasional added steady-state cardio in the form of running, walking, biking, etc.

What is your trick in the morning for coffee? I currently use Splenda but also like to use a vanilla creamer.
I'm having a hard time with shin splints during the sprinting part of the cardio, any good advice please
Hi Lauren! I started a week of your meals this week and the 30X30 workout program. I was wondering how many hours you go in between your five meals and when you have the last meal of the day. Love your blog! I am a blogger myself and am using your suggestions to maintain a healthier lifestyle and to get toned for my wedding next Fall. Thanks!
