Thursday Training Tip of the Day: When it comes to weight training, a large part of seeing results is how workouts are structured throughout the week. Fortunately, this is something you don’t have to worry about because I take care of it for you, but I always think we are more likely to stick with something when we understand why it works, so I thought it would perfect for today’s training tip! As you know, when we weight train, we break down muscle fibers on a cellular level. Weights add a “stress” to our muscles that is more than our bodies are adapted to handling. When we target a muscle throughout weighted exercises, we are causing localized damage; when we wake up sore in a particular area, we are feeling the inflammatory and immune response to the muscle breakdown put in effect to repair those muscle fibers. Is anyone else thinking “this sounds so terrible” lol?! All of the prior leads  us to see the physical results of a fit body.
So how do we achieve this muscle breakdown??
By structuring out workouts so that we are targeting each muscle group at least once per week and most importantly, that we are doing enough movements and sets for one particular muscle group. For instance, you’ll notice that yesterday was an upper body workout particularly for shoulders and triceps! Giving those muscle groups proper attention allows us to target them and cause muscle breakdown deeply enough to see results. You don’t see me doing an upper body workout where we target biceps, triceps, shoulders, chest and back. I think of it as quality > quantity. Targeting more muscle groups at one time isn’t always better if you’re looking to get fit and defined! I’m allllll about helping you see those physical results, so now you know why I structure these workouts the way I do, and hopefully you’ll now know how to do it yourself too!!

My favorite part of the outdoors is a sunset. They have a way of helping me feel at peace. When I gaze at a sunset, my problems seem to drift away and I’m filled with a strength that empowers me to be my best self in every moment.

PS – did y’all ever know Anthony had long hair lol. He always wanted to be able to fit his hair in a ponytail so in his last year of college he grew it out then ended up getting it so long that he donated it to Locks of Love! It got much longer….I’ll ask him to post a throwback pic on Instagram @anthonyl920
